New districts

We started at ten o’clock to go to Stratford. This district was built in 2012 for the Olympic Games. It’s located in the east of London. The park is 250 hectares long. Before the Olympic Games, this zone was an industrial estate. They decided to revitalise this space by building a new district dedicated for sports.

In this area, there were big sportive structures. The most impressive is the « London Olympic Stadium » with 80,000 places for spectators. An other structure was the « Aquatic Center » with 17,500 places. A great particularity was the adaptability for the number of places : during the Olympic Games, there were 80,000 places and after, only 25,000 (in the London Olympic Stadium). The architecture was atypical. For example, there was a handball court called « the Copper Box », which is litteraly a square building made of copper. Moreover, there was a velodrome only composed of red wood.

Since the end of the Games, the city didn’t abandon the district. On the contrary, they continued to develop it by raising the number of buildings. Furthermore, it reused the structures for others sports events like rugby or football matches.

After this, we went to the Isle of Dogs. This is a modern quarter with buildings of famous firms like « USBC » or « Société Générale ». Most of the buildings were rectangular. A river cross the district, like in Venice. The water give a peaceful feeling with the reflection of the buildings on the river.
