The twenty Fenchurch Street, nicknamed the Talkie-Walkie because of its shape, is a building situated in the middle of the City of London. It is a 160,1 metres high skyscraper designed by the architect Rafael Vinoly. It’s a modern design. The construction started in 2009 and finished in 2014. It cost around 200.000.000 pounds sterling. It is composed of steel or glass and the structure is metallic. It is part of the project to build tall skyscrapers in the British capital, such as the Shard or the Gherkin.
It is a high building with a concave shape. The top-heavy design enables the top to be bigger. On its exterior, there is double aluminium cladding.
Unfortunately, the concave shape of the building is a problem. The windows concentrate the sun’s rays on the street, where the temperature can reach 90°C, causing damage to vehicles and businesses. A reporter tried to cook an egg with the heat : it was a success.
At the top of this building, there is the Sky Garden which is claimed to be the highest public park. It is composed of three floors, where you can find a large viewing area, terrace bar and two restaurants.
